The Clay Studio: Claymation on the Frontier Podcast
How do student’s personal interests help to tell their story?
The Clay Studio teaching artists encourage students to make work that reflects their personal interests. The difficulty of creating a claymation (clay animation) can be frustrating but extremely rewarding. Listen to the student’s speaking about their personal growth in the podcast. One of the students speaks about their discovery that they can depend on themselves more than they initially thought they could. Through learning about this kind of art, this student learned much more about themself and their capabilities.
“The Claymobile program has focused on integrating two competencies of SEL from the CASEL 5 into our curriculum/classes:
Self-Awareness (Integrating personal and social identities and Identifying personal, cultural, and linguistic assets)
and Responsible Decision Making (Anticipating & evaluating the consequences of one’s actions).
…The Claymobile team offers strong understanding of developmental stages of students regardless of age, as we are rooted in trauma informed practices and SEL. We are keen observers of the needs in classrooms in order to offer student-centered solutions and approaches for diverse settings.”
